Memorial Weekend Part 2

The fun continues

Saturday was here and while it was a bit chilly, we were set on trying out the Kayak we had gotten for Christmas.  It is inflatable and fits under the bed. While lunch was cooking over the fire, Lucas worked on getting it inflated.  Some of the others were going to take the boat out, so we hitched a ride part way toward the lake, back to site 3 from last fall.  We didn't really know what we were doing, but it couldn't be that hard, right?  Lucas had a fishing pole, we had paddles and we were off. 


We spent a couple hours out on the lake. No fish and a bit on confusion over which direction we were headed, but it was a very peaceful afternoon and the views were incredible. I think we may just be fairly decent kayakers someday. 



Somebody had a little trouble getting out of the boat though, guess he is gonna have to work on his dismount. 

The rest of Saturday was spent relaxing and taking a few UTV rides.  Pretty sure Brooke spent most of the day on the four wheeler. 

Sunday was project number two, a back up camera.  We aren't a huge vehicle, but to this point have been counting on me to hop out and direct him backwards into campsites. One day I saw a random box from Amazon in the camper and said whats this? A new back up camera - welp guess that tells you how well I've done at that job.  Truth me told, you cant really see anything except semis out the back windows and this one lets you see behind you while driving, so it was a smart idea.  Project #2 did not take nearly as long as #1, and turned out really well. 


That afternoon was the annual disc golf tournament. Tyler, Sierra and Brooke had spent time while we were installing the camera, getting the course all set up.  We decided to just keep score in our heads and not write anything down.  Pretty sure I lost count half way through, but others did a bit better. I wasn't in any danger of coming in first, so I wasn't too worried about it.  In the end we think it was a tie between Brooke and Tim, but who really knows. 

When the tournament was done, we took a four wheeler ride to  Four Seasons Resort in Pembine to listen to some live music.

I did break down and shower on Sunday, even if that meant puffy air dried hair. It was completely worth it! Stay tuned for the outdoor shower we have in mind.  

Monday we pretty much packed up and headed home.  I would say overall we did pretty well for our first longish trip.  We may now be a bit overly confident because we have planned a 10 day trip in July to the UP. Wish us luck!

Checking things off the list

It's NOT just what's on the inside that counts. We have been a bit more focused on all things outside the last few weeks and it's feeling pretty good to check things off the list.  Working on the water system, sprucing up the tires and adding some personality to the exterior have been our focus recently.  Lucas got new hubcaps for Christmas, so once it was warm enough we got those installed.  I'll show you the before so you can appreciate the after.  Before                        During    And the After..... Next up was working on the water system.  We had the counter, sink and faucet all ready on the inside, but the bigger project really lies in the outside cabinet where the fresh and gray water tanks will go, along with the pump and hot water heater.  The counter height is higher, so the clips that came with the sink wouldn't work.  A trip to Home Depot and some creative use of the  Dremel and the sink is nice and secure.   Water is not completely flowing, but we

Memorial Weekend Part 1

This was it The true test of all our hard work. Up until this point we had only gone for one night stays, maybe two here or there. This time we were embarking on a 4 night journey. I admit, I was a bit nervous about that many days without the use of a long hot shower, but I was going to give it my best try.   In typical Lucas & Leslie fashion we headed to camp with a few projects we wanted to accomplish. I little sitting and relaxing is nice, but we seem to  prefer keeping ourselves occupied with activities most of the time.  Maybe my kids come by their ADD naturally, who knows.  I think I'll take you on a day by day peek into our adventures. Thursday was pretty low key, we didn't head up until after work so arrived around 7pm. We stopped for dinner on the way up and just relaxed a little when we got there.  Seems I didn't manage to take a single picture that night. Finally Got My White Kitchen!

 We Have a Kitchen  Mother nature has been trying to halt our progress, but she can't tell us what to do. We have been slowly tackling the kitchen area on days above freezing and this is probably my favorite transformation so far. I knew I wanted subway tile, so that got ordered right away. The countertop on the other hand was not as easy to decide. Was I going to make one? That seemed like a lot of work. Butcher block? super heavy and might not be smart. IKEA? Yep this was the answer.  They have some nice laminate countertops. More decisions- was I going to warm it up and go with a wood look or be cool and do the concrete look.  Votes were split 50/50 and I think I would have liked either one.  Sydney has an IKEA a few minutes from her and she was coming up to visit so she agreed to pick it up for me.  I don't think we thought this through very carefully cause the pickup was a bit more challenging than we expected.  I must not have conveyed the size very well, so Syd ventured
